La foto mostra una protesi totale d'anca utilizzata per trattare una frattura del collo del femore in una paziente relativamente giovane (70 anni). In questo tipo di protesi, non solo la componente femorale, ma anche  il cotile viene protesizzato a livello del bacino . Le protesi d'anca sono sempre più "affidabili" ed assicurano una longevità superiore alle endoprotesi. In questo si differenzia dall'endoprotesi (protesi intermedia) dove solo la componente femorale viene protesizzata. E' il chirurgo che decide in base alla sua esperienza e allo stato pre-operatorio del paziente il miglior tipo di impianto.
